A volunteer in Washoe County who had been injured a couple of years ago recently reached out with interest in returning to the program. Despite some changes in her health, including worsening eyesight, she was eager to get involved again. The Program Coordinator provided her with a refresher training and was able to pair her with a few clients.

One of the clients, who lives in Nye County, had also recently lost her eyesight. This pairing turned into a meaningful connection, as both the volunteer and client were able to relate through shared experiences. A highlight of their conversations has been the discovery of “talking books,” which reignited their shared love for reading. These audio books have made a huge difference in their lives, and both the client and volunteer truly look forward to their weekly phone calls.
