RSVP Volunteer David Youngs Honored for Extraordinary Volunteerism

Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program, Inc. is proud to announce that long-time volunteer driver David Youngs has been awarded the James L. Pfrommer Award for Extraordinary Volunteerism by the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada.

The award, named in honor of the late James L. “Jim” Pfrommer, recognizes individuals who embody a lifelong commitment to service. Jim lived by Santa Clara University’s motto of the “3 C’s”—Competence, Conscience, and Compassion—and carried forward the Community Foundation’s guiding adage: “Connecting people who care with causes that matter.”

Jim’s legacy of leadership and community service lives on through this award. He served on the Community Foundation’s Board from 2008–2019, including as Board Chair from 2016 until his passing. His dedication extended beyond the Foundation, with active roles in the Reno Rotary Club of Reno, the Reno Rotary Foundation, and as a founding member of the Washoe K-12 Education Program.

David Youngs, a volunteer driver with RSVP for more than a decade, exemplifies this same spirit of extraordinary service. Every Tuesday, David provides transportation for seniors in Carson City, ensuring they can reach vital medical appointments, grocery stores, and community activities. Beyond his scheduled service, David has become a true companion to many of RSVP’s clients, bringing holiday meals and gifts, checking on them when they are ill, and offering friendship and comfort to those who often have no family nearby.

David is the definition of selfless service. His dedication to our clients goes far beyond driving. He brings kindness, consistency, and compassion to every person he helps, and we are thrilled to see him recognized with this prestigious award.

The Community Foundation of Northern Nevada established the James L. Pfrommer Award to honor Jim’s enduring legacy and to celebrate volunteers who continue his tradition of giving back. David’s decade of service and his profound impact on the lives of RSVP’s clients make him a fitting recipient of this honor.

Warm regards,

Sponsor a Senior

Help Keep Independence within Reach

Every day, many seniors in Carson City face the challenge of staying safely and comfortably in their homes. The Nevada Rural RSVP Homemaker Program helps bridge that gap — but we can’t do it without your support.

Our Homemakers bring comfort and care to frail, homebound seniors by helping with light housekeeping, laundry, and linens—creating a safe, clean, and welcoming home environment.

For just $100, you can sponsor a senior in need, for one month, providing bimonthly homemaker services (2.5 hours, twice a month) at no cost to them. These services include help with:

• Light housekeeping
• Bathrooms and kitchens
• Laundry and living areas

Our dedicated Homemakers are paid a modest $20/hour, making your donation stretch far while making a real difference.

Help Seniors with Homemaker Services

$100 = One Month of Services

$500 = Six Months of Services

$1,200 = Twelve Months of Services

Many seniors have been deemed eligible for homemaker assistance through our vetting process. These individuals are unable to provide adequate care for themselves. Currently, we have over 160 eligible seniors on a waiting list due to limited funding. With your support, they won’t have to choose between safety and independence.

Donate today and be the reason a senior can stay in the home they love.
