It Takes a Village
Coming Together for a Shared Purpose
This past holiday season, something truly special happened in Carson City—an inspiring example of what compassion, collaboration, and community spirit can accomplish when organizations come together with a shared purpose.
Through a partnership between the Rotary Club of Carson City and RSVP, local seniors were “adopted” for Christmas and reminded that they are seen and valued. Each participating Rotarian was paired with a senior, personally contacted them to learn their wishes, shopped for gifts, and then delivered those gifts during a meaningful holiday visit. Funded by the Rotary Club at $100 per senior, this long-standing tradition brought smiles to both recipients and volunteers alike.
Additionally, and equally impactful, was RSVP’s collaboration with Friends to All to pair seniors who are homebound or living in care facilities with the Touching Hearts with a Visit program. The mission of this program is to bring joy to those who are alone far too often.
Each year, teams dressed as Santa and helpers visit 150 to 200 seniors, delivering donated gifts and the priceless gift of companionship. For many, opening the door to see Santa—and sharing a moment, a photo, and a conversation—brings joy that lasts far beyond the holidays.
These efforts serve as a powerful reminder that communities of any size can lead by example. We hope this inspires other communities to adopt similar programs, ensuring that seniors everywhere experience the warmth, dignity, and connection they deserve.
On behalf of RSVP, I extend heartfelt thanks to the Rotary Club of Carson City, Friends to All, and the many volunteers, donors, and local businesses who made this possible. Together, you demonstrate the true meaning of the season—proof that a caring heart and a simple visit can truly change lives.
With gratitude and hope,
